Vaccination program for Cows and Goats in Bhola by COAST LGP PDF Print E-mail

Livestock is one of the major livelihood options and essential production source of agriculture in Bangladesh. In recent times, farmers have been suffering from a disease named anthrax and losing valuable livestock, mainly cows. Tobgi union parishad of Borhanuddin upazila of Bhola district with the support of COAST under its Strengthening pro poor service delivery in Local Governance (known as Local Governance program-LGP) program organized a free vaccination program. Anthrax vaccine for cows and Pasties Pest Raiment (PPR) for goats were provided.




On 22 June, 2011 the standing committee on Agriculture, fisheries and livestock of Tobgi union parishad and Trisena Morch organized the program, necessary fund was provided jointly by Union parishad and COAST LGP program. Upazila livestock office provided technical support.


The main objectives of the program were:

 To strengthen awareness among poor farmers on vaccination

 To develop relationship among community people & govt. livestock service providers

 To increase Income Generation Activities.

Total 295 nos of cows and 95 nos of goats were brought under vaccination during that day long program. Among others union parishad members Md. Noya Mia Shahe Alam and Rehena Begum, upazila livestock officer Habibur Rahman were present.

Beneficiaries express their appreciation and gratitude to COAST for organizing that program. They were happy since they did not have the capacity to afford the vaccines for their valuable livestock. Community decided to organized program regularly by their own initiatives in furthermore.
